About The Position

The Marketing and Communications Manager is an experienced communications professional responsible for developing and managing Urban Strategies, Inc. (USI)’s internal and external communications across digital and print platforms to support its mission and increase its visibility, engagement and impact. The Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications to translate the organization’s vision into compelling narratives and measurable communications objectives. This role requires a communications professional with well-rounded experience working in the various aspects of a dynamic communications shop supporting multiple internal and external audiences and the organization’s development and advocacy efforts. This includes the development and execution of communications plans, message development across multiple audiences, content creation and management across print, digital and social media platforms, and storytelling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, preferably nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
  • Ability to multitask, self-driven and highly motivated towards tangible results
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in web content management, email marketing tools, and social media platforms
  • Proven ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives for multiple audiences
  • Alignment with USI’s mission and core values

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute communications plans that are directly aligned with USI’s mission, programs and strategic priorities.
  • Identify communications goals and objectives against audience needs, and develop communications calendars, outreach for various audiences, and measure success.
  • Work with internal audiences to develop and execute marketing and communications strategies to increase brand awareness and support organizational and programmatic goals.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all forms of media and communications collateral.
  • Generate reports and analysis to evaluate the impact of digital marketing efforts and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, identifying information needs from the leadership team and other departments to ensure the Communications Department has the resources to succeed.
  • Monitor industry trends, audience insights, and the competitive landscape to inform strategies.
  • Contribute to integrated marketing plans that include earned media, paid media, owned channels, and partnerships.
  • Produce and distribute high-quality, audience-tailored content messages across print, digital and social media platforms, such as newsletters, email marketing, press releases, blog posts and the organization’s website that tell the story of USI’s unique work and measurable impact.
  • Work closely with leadership and site teams to identify and develop compelling stories and data to highlight USI’s unique approach and successes.
  • Translate complex data into accessible stories, inform the development of infographics, and dashboards that highlight organizational performance.
  • Manage social media platforms, including content calendars, scheduling, and engagement.
  • Maintain and update website content, ensuring it is current, accessible, and optimized.
  • Optimize web and digital content using SEO strategies and keyword research.
  • Utilize analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media insights, CRM dashboards) to track performance and audience engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop communications that amplify community voices and success stories.
  • Support outreach strategies and storytelling through school visits, community events, and local engagement opportunities.
  • Maintain stakeholder contact registries and distribution lists for targeted communications.
  • Assist in maintaining and distributing media related content and relationships.
  • Provide administrative and project management support, including scheduling, drafting meeting notices, and preparing presentations.
  • Ensure alignment of communications strategies across internal teams and departments.
  • Support training opportunities to enhance staff capacity in communications tools and platforms.
