About The Position

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, engineering, or a scientific discipline preferred.
  • 7 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in multimedia, public relations, communications, or agency work preferred.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in science journalism, publishing, or related fields preferred.
  • 2 years of managerial experience in a fast-paced environment preferred.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills required.
  • Understanding of the higher education environment preferred.

  • Experience working in a University academic setting or in higher education preferred.
  • Understanding of topical areas of distinction within the School of Arts and Sciences preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on the School of Arts and Sciences Leadership Team.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate the school's annual marketing and communication plan.
  • Use research and data to inform and adapt strategy, measure results, and improve workflows.
  • Coordinate the School's communications goals with the School's Strategic Plan and the University 175th Celebration and Advancement Campaigns.
  • Counsel the Dean on marketing and communications plans, opportunities, challenges, and results.
  • Develop and implement a vision for the School's website in coordination with the Provost's Office and the Office of University Marketing and Communications.
  • Manage the School's SEO strategies and review major publications to ensure alignment with strategy.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and administrative units to develop digital and social media strategies and content.
  • Compose compelling stories for University-owned media channels and translate complex scientific findings into accessible content.
  • Engage faculty to increase recognition of their accomplishments in various media outlets.
  • Assist senior administrators in crafting key messages, speeches, and presentations for engagements.
  • Align with Central Admissions and support recruitment and retention activities.
