About The Position

Zurich Middle Markets has delivered double-digit growth over the last four consecutive years, and we strive to exceed that growth in the years ahead! We've been dedicated to assembling a team of dedicated Middle Market leaders and underwriters who understand this space very deeply and who grasp the unique challenges of the various industry segments and the individual customers we serve. Zurich is currently looking for a Market Facing Underwriting Manager (Level I or Level II) to support our production underwriting team. This hybrid position will be based out of our Houston office and is a unique leadership opportunity in which you will manage a small team of underwriters while also being an individual contributor with your own select book of business. This position requires you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and to be in the office three days per week to lead team collaboration days.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND Experience with Microsoft Office
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area AND 2 or more years of management experience

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of underwriters
• Manage underwriting and rate strategies to promote profitable growth
• Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction
• Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels
• Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions
• Support the organization's sales culture by being a trusted advisor for agents, brokers, and customers
