About The Position

The Market Facing Life Sciences Underwriter role at Zurich North America involves managing complex new and renewal business within the Middle Markets segment, specifically focusing on Life Sciences. This position requires a blend of technical underwriting skills, sales mindset, and strong relationship-building capabilities. The underwriter will serve as a Subject Matter Expert, working closely with agents and brokers to provide tailored insurance solutions while ensuring a positive customer experience. Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR 10+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR 8+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience in a team environment.

• In-depth experience underwriting Life Science product liability on a primary and excess basis.
• In-depth experience underwriting Life Science property.
• Existing broker relationships in the Southeast region.
• Strong negotiation skills.

• Knowledge of underwriting philosophy and national/local filing regulations.
• Surplus Lines license for NC or GA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Life Science industry practice advocate to improve customer experience by understanding their risk and offering tailored insurance solutions.
• Utilize a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Leverage risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Assist in refining underwriting guidelines for life science exposures.
• Identify gaps in customer programs and align Zurich's products to provide necessary contract certainty.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and act as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business for Life Science risks.
• Conduct coverage analysis and communicate life science defenses and exposure analysis for product liability.
• Engage in market-facing activities and production within the Middle Markets division.
• Collaborate with various groups within Zurich to enhance understanding of life science exposures and market requirements.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, insurance laws, and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain relationships with agencies and brokers.
• Work within broad limits on highly complex assignments.
