About The Position

This role will unlock a distributed power grid in the U.S. Base’s utility partnerships business is critical to accessing the ~80% of residential meters in the US that are served by regulated utilities. We are looking to capitalize on early wins to aggressively scale this part of the business - critical to that goal is ensuring Base’s distributed storage can compete on a level playing field with incumbent technologies. Today’s systems and processes were built around a centralized grid. Were they to acknowledge the tangible incremental benefits of distributed resources, Base would win against any alternative assets (e.g., Utility-scale storage, peaker plants, VPPs). This person will intervene in areas that will immediately support the scale deployment of Base assets in regulated territories across the country.

Requirements

  • Effective, professional communication skills to be the voice of Base with key counterparties.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how electric utilities buy things and how to communicate value in the industry.
  • Experience standing up and leading large initiatives with external partners and regulators in a high-growth setting.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills to manage cross-functional initiatives.
  • Tangible examples of enabling scale with large industrial counterparties.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategy to get electric utilities to value distributed assets for what they’re worth.
  • Build on your existing network of utility industry contacts to identify needs for distributed storage early in their procurement lifecycle.
  • Advocate on behalf of Base through utility and regulatory proceedings (e.g., IRPs, RFIs, RFPs, programs dockets) to enable distributed storage to compete on a level playing field with traditional generation resources.
  • Proactively engage PUCs to lay groundwork in regions of the country strategically interesting to Base.
