Global Support and Development is seeking to hire a Maritime Access Specialist (Data). The position is full-time, in-person, and located at HQ in Charlotte, N.C. Anchored in precision, and powered by communication, the Maritime Access Specialist connects assets, skills, and people - ensuring every operation runs as smoothly as the tide. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Maritime Access, the Maritime Access Specialist will be critical in supporting underwater operations, providing support to disaster response operations, and capacity strengthening engagements in support of our partners. The position will also support the maintenance and operation of GSD Maritime assets.   • Executes GSD’s mission in supporting the planning, execution and assessment of Maritime activities throughout the GSD operating area linked to Outreach, Capacity Strengthening and Disaster Response objectives. Activities include diving, light salvage, and underwater data collection operations as well as infrastructure assessments, data analysis and product creation;
  • Support critical decision-making processes to include identifying issues and driving problem solving, especially in resource-constrained and time-sensitive contexts;
  • Execution of programs and projects for partner and community-led Maritime engagements;
  • Support and participate in the comprehensive Maritime training curriculum and provide instruction to improve knowledge and skills of individuals and teams. Curriculum must encompass proper administration and execution of all operational functions and ensure compliance and protocols are upheld;
  • Maintain the upkeep of all maritime data collection equipment which includes adequate inventory tracking and maintenance, the review of all maritime software and licensure, as well as liaising with Logistics to ensure remote equipment caches are adequately maintained;
  • Primary departmental stakeholder in maritime data collection, data processing, and collaborating with GSD’s internal Information Management and Geographic Information Systems staff;
  • Promote a safety and risk awareness culture within GSD. Foster the commitment to ethical and responsible practices at all times;
  • Promote and action GSD’s core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all work we conduct;
  • Promote good stewardship of financial and other resources to achieve maximum benefit to those impacted by disaster or at risk of impact; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Three (3) or more years experience with maritime data collection;
  • Three (3) or more years experience in multibeam SONAR / bathymetric data management, preferably in an international context;
  • Three (3) or more years in hyperbaric chamber operations, with 25 or more chamber profiles completed (preferred); and
  • Three (3) or more years in dive operations to include survey, salvage, and infrastructure inspection, with 50 or more working dives completed (preferred); and
  • Proven experience working successfully with small teams.
  • Accredited commercial diving school or suitable military equivalent; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience from the maritime sector.
  • ADCI Surface-Supplied Air Diver or military equivalent;
  • Complete Specialist Crew training including a Seafarers Medical examination, or possess an ENG 1 or USCG Merchant Mariner Medical Certificate (within 6 months of hire);
  • Training and experience in SONAR systems including theory and applications;
  • Management of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs);
  • Basic boat handling skills;
  • Training and experience in field communications systems such as satellite, handheld and global positioning systems (GPS);
  • Basic emergency or disaster response knowledge;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to rapidly shift tasks;
  • Experience working and/or traveling domestically and internationally;
  • Three (3) or more years in hyperbaric chamber operations, with 25 or more chamber profiles completed (preferred); and
  • Three (3) or more years in dive operations to include survey, salvage, and infrastructure inspection, with 50 or more working dives completed (preferred); and
  • Kirby Morgan Hat Technician (preferred); and
  • USCG 25 ton Master (Near Coastal) or IYT Master of Yachts 200 ton (Limited), (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French desired.
