Marine Topside Paint Associate

Alliance MarineSt. Augustine, FL
1d$22 - $28Onsite

About The Position

As a Topside Marine Painter, you play a critical role in protecting assets, delivering a professional finish, and ensuring boaters see craftsmanship—not shortcuts. This is a hands-on role for painters who know their way around spray equipment, understand fiberglass substrates, and take pride in clean, durable marine finishes.

Requirements

  • Hands-on spray painting experience with marine, automotive, or industrial coatings.
  • Working knowledge of fiberglass and composite surfaces, including prep and minor repair.
  • Proven ability to deliver consistent, high-quality finishes in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of paint systems, reducers, catalysts, and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to follow technical direction while working independently when required.
  • Attention to detail—because the difference between “good enough” and “professional” is visible from the dock.
  • Physical capability to work outdoors in varying weather, including bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Professional Spray Application: Execute high-quality spray painting of topsides, decks, marina structures, and equipment using marine-grade coatings, primers, and finishes.
  • Surface Prep Expertise: Perform proper sanding, fairing, masking, solvent wiping, and substrate preparation to ensure adhesion and finish quality.
  • Fiberglass Knowledge: Work confidently with fiberglass surfaces, including identifying defects, performing minor fiberglass repairs, and preparing gelcoat or composite surfaces for paint.
  • Finish Quality Control: Maintain consistent film thickness, proper cure times, and defect-free finishes (runs, fisheyes, orange peel, overspray).
  • Tool & Equipment Stewardship: Set up, operate, clean, and maintain spray guns, compressors, PPE, and paint materials in accordance with best practices.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including respirator use, material handling, and environmental controls.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with the Paint Supervisor and yard team to meet schedules, adapt to weather conditions, and complete projects efficiently.
  • Jobsite Discipline: Maintain clean, organized work areas and report material shortages, equipment issues, or quality concerns proactively.
