About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Marine Technician to join our team, responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems on various marine vessels, including boats, yachts, and commercial ships. The ideal candidate will ensure vessels operate safely and efficiently, adhering to marine safety standards and environmental regulations. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in dynamic, often outdoor environments at marinas, boatyards, or docks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a marine technology program or apprenticeship preferred.
  • American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) certification or manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Yamaha, Mercury) is a plus.
  • 1–3 years of experience in marine mechanics, electrical systems, or a related field; entry-level candidates with strong technical aptitude may be considered.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Knowledge of marine engines (inboard/outboard), electrical systems, hydraulics, and electronics.
  • Familiarity with computer diagnostics and modern marine technologies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in repairs and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of vessels to identify issues in engines, propellers, steering systems, and navigation equipment using diagnostic tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and system checks to ensure optimal vessel performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, replacing damaged or worn components such as pumps, wiring, or propellers.
  • Install new marine equipment, including navigation systems, communication devices, and sanitation units, following manufacturer specifications.
  • Repair and maintain vessel hulls (wood or fiberglass), applying paint, gel coats, or wax to ensure structural integrity and appearance.
  • Ensure all work meets marine safety and environmental regulations, maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Work with ship captains, marine engineers, and clients to coordinate repairs and provide technical guidance.
  • Assist with launching, docking, or securing vessels using winches, cranes, or marine railways.
