About The Position

The position involves working within a small company atmosphere alongside other marine engineers, naval architects, and designers to tackle various engineering challenges. Projects will encompass a wide range of vessels in the maritime industry, including ships, yachts, tugs, pleasure boats, and passenger vessels. The role requires creating engineering drawings and schematics for both new construction and refit projects, designing systems, routing piping, and specifying equipment suitable for the vessel type and service. Additionally, the position entails managing projects, which includes creating work scopes and schedules, communicating with clients, coordinating with technical vendors, and attending project meetings. The engineer will also manage the class and regulatory submittal, review, and approval process. Some travel and fieldwork will be necessary, as engineers must be able to work safely aboard ships and in a shipyard environment, which may involve climbing ladders and navigating walkways, gangways, and confined spaces.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in the maritime industry with marine systems design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture, or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with marine industry experience.
  • Experience in shipyard newbuild or repair engineering, construction, or project management.
  • Familiarity with class and USCG submittal and approval process.
  • Experience with 2D/3D piping systems and equipment arrangement and routing.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, controls, and/or electrical systems.
  • Shipboard ventilation and HVAC design and installation knowledge.
  • Valid driver's license, passport, and TWIC card (or ability to obtain).
  • Currently able to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate.
  • USCG license and time sailing on license would be a strong consideration.
  • Design experience relating to marine structures is a plus.
  • Knowledge of marine structures and design would be beneficial but not required.
  • Experience with Rhino or ShipConstructor software.
