About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for an experienced Structural Engineer with marine structures focus to join our Honolulu, HI office. The Marine Structural Engineer shall have 12+ years of experience and the skills to assist with leading the design of waterfront structures and marine infrastructure projects, including piers, wharves, marinas, vessel mooring and berthing structures, bulkheads, breakwater and shore protection structures. You will work on major infrastructure programs/projects in support of our work with the U.S. Navy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required. Ability to obtain PE in Hawaii or with the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
  • 12+ years of structural design experience
  • Understanding of NAVFAC Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build delivery methods desired
  • Experience effectively interacting with staff, vendors, clients and agencies
  • Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) certification in the Port Engineering category preferred
  • Due to client parameters, selected candidate must show (post offer) proof of U.S. citizenship and clear results of a thorough background check that may include but is not limited to credit and criminal history
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Responsibilities

  • Lead/Assist in leading and managing projects including the preparation of engineering design and construction documents
  • Assist in managing multidiscipline project design teams for projects across the Pacific, including subconsultants, and establish priorities, schedules, and scope of work
  • Plan, direct and monitor all aspects of multidiscipline projects with varying degrees of technical complexity
  • Works effectively independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Mentors entry-level and junior staff
  • Prepare proposals and directly interfaces with clients and agencies
  • Performs periodic site visits and attends client meetings
  • Participates in office business development strategy and implementation
  • Interface with clients as needed for successful project delivery. Address client requirements and manage client expectations regarding scope, schedule and quality on projects
  • Communicate with staff and subconsultants to establish work priorities for projects
  • Coordinate structural design with staff along with other disciplines to meet project schedules and budgets
  • Assists in determining project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions

Benefits

  • Base salary range: $131,000 to $190,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.
