About The Position

SAIC is looking for a Marine Mammal Assistant for our San Diego, CA location. In this role, the successful candidate will be required to perform preparation of rations, cleaning of food preparation areas, animal enclosures and commons areas, as well as maintaining and cleaning specialized equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Must be able to obtain Secret security clearance after start.
• Must be physically fit and able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Ability to pass a Maritime Vessel Operation Color Blind Test.
• Basic SCUBA certification.
• One year of animal training experience, or operational and navigation experience on small boats (30' or under), or USCG license (operator of un-inspected passenger vessels/6pac), or advanced scuba diving certifications, or two years of college and 3 months experience as a marine mammal custodian.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced scuba skills are a plus.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform preparation of rations and cleaning of food preparation areas.
• Clean animal enclosures and commons areas.
• Maintain and clean specialized equipment.
• Operate and maintain small watercraft.
• Feed marine mammals and administer food supplements.
• Observe marine mammals and assist with basic husbandry.
• Potentially become a designated secondary handler for specific animals after training.
• Perform tasks related to the care and training of marine mammals for specific projects.
• Scuba dive as required for the position.
• Work outdoors on boats in adverse weather conditions.
• Deter the presence of nuisance animals following established processes and procedures.
• Travel with animals for extended periods of time, including harsh environmental and high-risk locations.
