About The Position

This vacancy is for a GS-1801-12, MARINE INSPECTOR located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, USCG MARINE SAFETY UNIT STURGEON BAY. Duty location is Sturgeon Bay, WI. In this position as a Marine Inspector, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties, and international conventions. Typical work assignments include conducting reviews of vessel's plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with regulations and applicable standards, determining that vessels being inspected have the proper documents and certificates on board and in effect, inspecting all required navigation, intra-vessel communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems on a vessel to ensure that they are operating properly and in compliance with national and international standards, inspecting a vessel's hull and machinery to ensure that they are in compliance with applicable safety standards, or design, installation, and operational standards, and ensuring the required inspection documentation is prepared and appropriate orders drafted specifying any required changes, repairs or operational limitations for the vessel and its equipment.
