About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense (DoD) contractor specializing in Range operations and maintenance (O&M); weapons testing; facilities management; aerial, ground and seaborne targets O&M; technical, logistics and other engineering support; systems integration; electronics and communications maintenance services; and a growing cybersecurity business. At Eglin Air Force Base, SA-TECH provides Range support services including Marine Operations O&M, O&M and engineering support for all remote-controlled Foreign Military Equipment (FME) land targets and sea targets, as well as O&M for Electronic Warfare (EW) systems and associated range instrumentation systems. SA-TECH also provides Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) as well as management oversight, design, integration, installation and pre- and post-test operations. SA-TECH conducts concurrent land operations on Eglin Test and Training Range and seaborne operations in the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range (EGTTR), plus deployed training missions outside of ECTTR along the Texas coastline and in the Key West, FL vicinity, keeping EW, communication and instrumentation systems, as well as land and marine targets and support vessels operational to meet a demanding mission operations tempo. The company is seeking a Marine Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) for Marine Operations at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. This role involves analyzing malfunctions and repairing, servicing, and maintaining diesel engines and generators onboard a variety of seafaring vessels. The mechanic will also need to operate various maritime vessels, requiring a good working knowledge of onboard systems including diesel engines, generators, electronics, hydraulics, navigation equipment, radar, and Coast Guard navigation rules. The position requires working well within a team and potentially directing or being directed by others to efficiently correct problems on vessels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Specialized training acquired through vocational or formal military school in similar studies
  • Five years’ experience in relevant field with similar duties
  • Knowledge and skills to operate various types of equipment, troubleshoot, and perform in-shop and open-water maintenance on diesel (or gasoline) engines, as well as repair the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems that are associated with them
  • Good working knowledge of onboard systems, including but not limited to diesel and gas engines, generators, electronics, hydraulics, navigation equipment, and radar systems
  • May be required to be trained and certified in the inspection and removal and handling of hazardous materials/hazardous waste such as asbestos, hexavalent chromium, and radioactive gauges
  • Comfortable in an open water environment offshore; not prone to seasickness and can swim
  • A general knowledge of tools and equipment needed to repair and service vessels
  • US Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through Company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of your work employment
  • US Citizenship required
  • Must obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and clearance must be maintained throughout employment
  • All candidates will be required to pass a consumer report and/or consumer investigation to include SSN, Driver Record and Criminal Background Investigation
  • Must pass pre-employment physical to include Drug Screen, Vision & Hearing testing, Medical Condition Certification and Back X-ray

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and operate machines or equipment to diagnose issues that need to be repaired, using pneumatic as well and hand tools
  • Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain diesel engines and generators, as well as vessels with gasoline propulsion systems
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges
  • Operate and maintain a variety of marine vessels up to 65’, including outboard-powered gasoline boats
  • Perform all work in accordance with commercial and local accepted trade practices, marine repair manuals and/or technical orders
  • Clean and maintain vessels and the boat shop
  • Assist others as needed to assemble and disassemble equipment
  • Repair and service vessels using a strong knowledge of tools and equipment
