Position Summary: As a Cadet, this individual will be responsible for completing the qualification standards set for the Deckhand and Sr. Deckhand positions within the organization. Also, must perform duties related to passenger safety, passenger service, vessel operations and vessel maintenance.

Requirements

  • US Passport
  • TWIC
  • Completion of at least one year at a Maritime educational facility
  • Current enrollment in a Maritime training school
  • Basic Seamanship: safety equipment, line handling, knots and splices, small boat handling
  • Ability to effectively interact with the public, strong customer service skills
  • Strong organizational, communicative, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Ability and interest to learn and advance

  • Passenger vessel experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform all duties associated with your position, particularly Station Bill responsibilities and all aspects of passenger safety
  • Participate in safety drills and training
  • Assist with all vessel operations
  • Engage in deck operations including loading and discharging of passengers and vehicles
  • Respond as assigned to all vessel emergencies – respond as directed
  • Actively engage passengers to provide outstanding service
  • Ensure maintenance and service of all safety and deck equipment
  • Help organize projects for maintenance periods
  • Maintain vessel cleanliness and appearance to the highest standards
  • Assist Engineer as directed by vessel Master
  • Help perform vessel maintenance in accordance with phased maintenance schedules as directed
  • Inspect all areas of the vessel for environmental, safety and health deficiencies on a regular schedule
  • Report all deficiencies to vessel Master. Carryout corrective actions to the maximum extent possible
  • Maintain records of passenger counts and account for all tickets
  • Complete routine reports as directed
  • Complete and make submissions as required by sponsoring educational facility
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the vessel Master
