POSITION SUMMARY: The Marine Inspector position will be assigned to the MRF and will report to the Marine Inspection Manager. They will work closely with the Catlettsburg, KY based team and be responsible for the inspection and repair oversight of MPC’s barge fleet. The Marine Inspector must be able to work with integrity, a self-starter who can work with little supervision, possess good communication skills both individually and as a team, and flexible to changes that may have impact to job scope (e.g., company growth, technological advancements, etc.). This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card required.
  • Two (2) years of related experience required; Marine industry experience in mechanical, vessel, and/or welding preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Ship Inspection Report (SIRE) Credentials preferred. (Expected to get SIRE Credentials upon Hire)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts all required United States Coast Guard (USCG) barge, Sub M vessel, Ship Inspection Report (SIRE), and Company required inspections, and maintains appropriate documentation. Including, but not limited to, annual inspections, Tank Barge Streamlined Inspection Program (TBSIP), Boat & Barge Blast/Paint inspections (NACE), On/Off Charter Surveys, SIRE per the Oil Companies' International Marine Forum (OCIMF), Certificates of Inspection, Drydock Credits, Internal Structural Exams, etc. Additional inspections include facility tanks (API653) and facility piping (API570).
  • Manages barge related projects by providing on-site consultation during new barge/boat construction.
  • Recommends barges to be removed from service as needed for repairs, while coordinating with Maintenance Planners and Marine Logistics to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Works an ''on call'' schedule to assist with spill response coordination and acts as a first responder for Marine-related incidents.
  • Ensures and promotes efficient barge repair operations through interactions with local departmental staff, Marine Repair Facility (MRF) personnel, vendors, MPC/MPLX Terminals personnel, shipyards, outside towing companies, and contractors.
  • Tracks barges and arranges personal travel to complete inspections outside of area.
  • Provides Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to MRF and MPC/MPLX specialty projects. Represents MPC/HSM by working directly with the USCG, shipyards, Fleet Operators, customers, customer representatives, and surveyors.
  • In addition to barge related inspections, this position also completes other miscellaneous inspections for Marine such as: o Inspect and perform boat hull, MRF piping, MRF shore tank thickness readings and maintain appropriate documentation. o Provides MPC/MPLX Terminals and Refining with dock inspections as required. o MPC owned spar barge inspection and repairs. o Performs third-party shipyard audits. o Supports Marine Operations with vessel needs or minor repairs.
  • Consults with MPC/MPLX terminals and refineries on dock and float new construction/repair projects and provide on-site consultation during construction or repairs.
