The Marina General Manager handles all aspects of marina operations within budgetary guidelines in an efficient, cost-effective, and creative manner. The Marina General Manager works collaboratively with Regional and Executive Team members as well other colleagues throughout the organization. The Marina General Manager provides the highest level of customer service in a friendly, helpful manner while accurately responding to the customers needs. He or she will project a professional company image through all types of interactions. This is a fast-paced environment, and the Marina General Manager must be able to work under pressure. This position requires the team member to work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day. Seasonal schedule changes may take place at leadership discretion.

  • Achieve financial results according to the propertys annual operating and capital budgets
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding and awareness of the propertys financials and progress made towards achieving budget
  • Monitor actual versus projected budget figures every month; investigate negative deviations and set/monitor objectives to correct
  • Know and understand all the marinas computer and technology systems and POS software; ensure department Supervisors / Managers and their staffs have a working knowledge of all computer and technology systems and POS software
  • Ensure the property has an updated organization chart with either a Supervisor or Manager assigned and accountable for each business segment or department, reporting to the Marina General Manager
  • Supervise the security and safety of the marina grounds and buildings to ensure the safety of customers and team members; provide training for team members about the safe use of marina equipment and all functions related to their respective positions, including the training of firefighting equipment and spill containment
  • Routinely inspect all areas of the property to ensure a high-quality appearance and a proper safety environment, including restroom cleaning, proper stocking and presentation of the retail center for customers, thorough cleaning of docks / dry racks, ongoing trash pick-up, and other tasks that are consistent with this goal
  • Understand and comply with government regulations about marina operations and handle all aspects of governmental reporting and compliance including but not limited to weights and measures, OSHA, EPA, and Army Corp of Engineers
  • Monitor fuel levels and ensure they comply with TSSA standards
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all agencies, contractors, vendors, and customers
  • Determine the needed workforce to build an efficient team to run all the marina functions successfully. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise all personnel and/or contract labor either directly or via departmental supervisors
  • Lead weekly management meetings with all department Supervisors / Managers present to discuss the propertys financial performance, growth opportunities, challenges, announcements, policy changes, etc.
  • Respond to and resolve customer disputes consistent with company philosophy
  • Approve and oversee all long-term boat storage leasing, the waiting list, and retail leasing. Oversee reservations and bookings for boats and slips. Ensure that the Leasing department keeps an adequate record of all business transactions at the marina (boats, trailers, and slips)
  • Approve all purchases, invoices, and check requests
  • Ensure proper controls to safeguard assets, including but not limited to equipment and inventory
  • Ensure that all company and customer equipment are secure each evening prior to lock up
  • Ensure and take appropriate action for the proper maintenance of all marina equipment, property, grounds, office, retail store, fuel dock, rental boats, dry racks, and floating or fixed docks
  • Establish, execute, and enforce vessel hauling and launching procedures for dry storage vessels
  • Coordinate with other management personnel to ensure the efficient running of all departments, communicate work responsibilities to team members of different roles, and keep track of any employee absences or injuries
  • Oversee and approve implementation and maintenance of marketing programs, including promoting and implementing high standards of professional service and working towards establishing a good reputation for TopSide Marinas to the customer front
  • Respond to windstorms, flooding, or other emergency events that could damage marina assets or guest property
  • Maintain local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Instruction Manual in current order; Ensure adherence to departmental and/or operations policies, procedures, and practices
  • Manage employee disciplinary issues by documenting incidents and working with Human Resources to develop Performance Improvement Plans as necessary
  • Manage employee schedules by reviewing and approving timesheets as well as PTO and Sick requests in ADP, ensuring proper scheduling of employees to meet the needs of the marina
  • Notify Human Resources and submit appropriate documentation for Workers Compensation claims and OSHA incidents
  • Perform such duties as assigned by Regional and Executive leadership
  • Act with the highest level of integrity and maintain a positive attitude
  • Bachelors degree required in a related field
  • Five (5) years or more previous management experience including achieving financial goals, budgeting activities, inventory control, the direction of personnel, advertising, and customer relations
  • Must live within 20 to 30 minutes from the Marina
  • Strong passion for providing excellent hospitality and customer service
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and the budgeting process
  • Understand how to evaluate and address underperforming financial areas revealed in the Monthly Profit and Loss Statements
  • Knowledgeable of general boat handling and operations, mooring and docking practices, boat equipment, standard safety precautions, and different marina facilities
  • Adaptable to work composed of a variety of different tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time despite interruptions
  • Ability to make independent decisions and determine the appropriate course of action
  • Strong ability to develop partnerships with internal clients/others
  • Professional conduct and excellent interpersonal and communication skills with team members, customers, tenants, vendors, and government personnel
