About The Position

The Dock Hand - Fuel Dock, Houseboats, and Ships Store, is responsible for assisting with all marina services offered, quality control, and cash handling procedures; assists with quarterly inventory, assists with moorage reservations, maintains a clean and safe dock area, assists boaters with fueling, pump outs and secures guests’ boats. Conducts small boat and equipment rental Check In/Out and Orientation. Cleaning small boats as well as operating boats around the marina.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be over the age of 18 and able to successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to swim or wear Coast Guard approved personal floatation device.
  • Candidate must be able to work well in a team environment and must possess excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Takes initiative in getting job duties and tasks completed without direction or direct supervision.
  • Candidate must possess strong people skills and be able to work well with customers, managers, and fellow employees in sometimes difficult situations.
  • Candidate must be dependable and must display integrity and a strong work ethic.
  • Candidate must be able to follow all safety guidelines and be familiar with and follow all Tribal, Federal, and applicable Washington State laws regarding health and safety.
  • Experienced in snow removal, shovels exterior walkways during wintery weather; salts or sands icy walkways (if employed during winter months).
  • Candidate must work flexible shifts (all days of the week) and hours, holidays, and special events.
  • Must be flexible and able to perform or direct other duties as assigned.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, in addition to encompassing the ability to deal effectively with people in multifaceted work environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations and conditions.

  • Experience working outdoors and knowledge of environmental hazards and site safety. Ability to drive and operate a power boat and motor vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, preferred.
  • Experience or certification in MAST, UST, first aid/CPR, MOB, fire suppression and spill containment. (Training will be provided and the candidate must complete the training satisfactorily).
  • Coast Guard/Power Squadron certification (training will be provided and candidate must complete the training satisfactorily).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling boats; some marina dock experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting all boats docking and undocking in unfavorable wind and current situations.
  • Securing water and electrical supply to boats as required. Check dock lines and utility supplies as necessary during changing weather conditions.
  • Fuel boats while maintaining a safe environment, following appropriate procedures and guidelines. Assist with the taking on of supplies, water, battery charging, etc. (knowledge of proper fuel, oils, etc essential).
  • Pump out boats.
  • Keep Ice coolers maintained and full of ice as needed.
  • Fill propane bottles for marina customers as needed.
  • Maintain Marina maintenance, such as cleaning, weeding, removing trash, and organizing.
  • Thoroughly clean Marina and dock bathrooms and showers.
  • Clean up after pets on all marina property as needed.
  • Clean houseboats immediately when they return so they are available to go back out on the next reservation as requested by Ship Store supervisor or marina management.
  • Assistance as required in general maintenance and repairs) alertness for safety related repairs or needs, essential).
  • Assistance as assigned in storm preparation.
  • Assistance with retail inventories as needed.
  • Stock merchandise as directed by Ship Store supervisor.
  • Tournament activities.
  • Knowledge of marina dockage rates.
  • Knowledge of marina regulations and enforcement procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests, while directing customer issues to supervisor or general manager.
  • Successfully conduct a Man Overboard operation in an emergency.
  • Identify items and corresponding cost of items and tabulate bills using cash register, calculator, or other price equipment.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credit, or change due to customers accurately.
  • Maintain cash register and contents within.
  • Take phone calls and make short- and long-term moorage reservations only as directed by Dockmaster.
  • Create and process moorage contracts only as directed by Dockmaster.
  • Maintain awareness of safety issues and report them immediately to your manager.
  • Check In/Out and Orientate Rental Boat and Houseboat Guests as needed when directed by Dockmaster.
  • Conduct routine dock walks and make customer contacts.
  • Communicate with our houseboats, marina maintenance, and the public via marine radio.
  • Assist in other areas of the resort as directed.
