About The Position

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Mariachi Enrichment Instructor to lead engaging, culturally rooted after-school music classes for students in elementary through high school. This role focuses on introducing students to traditional mariachi music, including instrumentation, vocal performance, and ensemble collaboration. The ideal candidate is both a strong musician and an enthusiastic educator who can create a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 48+ college units (60 units required for high school programs) OR passing score on an academic proficiency exam
  • Experience in mariachi performance and/or instruction
  • Proficiency in at least one mariachi instrument or vocal performance
  • Experience working with elementary through high school-aged students
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to support students with varying skill levels
  • Experience working with youth in diverse communities
  • CPR Certification (Adult, Child, Infant) preferred
  • Negative TB test and COVID-19 vaccination record
  • Completion of Live Scan background check
  • Reliable transportation to assigned school sites and Arc office
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and actively lead instruction
  • Ability to demonstrate musical techniques
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (instruments/equipment)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement structured, engaging lesson plans
  • Teach foundational mariachi techniques (rhythm, timing, melody, ensemble coordination)
  • Provide instruction in vocal performance and/or mariachi instruments (violin, guitar, vihuela, guitarrón, trumpet)
  • Introduce students to the cultural and historical significance of mariachi music
  • Adapt instruction to meet varying skill levels and learning styles
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Maintain student engagement and redirect behavior as needed
  • Support student confidence, participation, and collaboration
  • Lead rehearsals and ensemble practices
  • Prepare students for showcases or performances
  • Track attendance and participate in staff meetings or trainings
  • Arrive early for setup and remain after for cleanup
  • Maintain consistent communication with Site Coordinators and Arc leadership
  • Follow Arc’s core expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Have Fun
  • Bring necessary materials (instruments, sheet music, etc.) unless otherwise arranged
  • Maintain and organize instruments and equipment
  • Represent Arc professionally at all school sites
