About The Position

The Mapping Technician 3 (NY HELPS) position involves performing complex technical duties in support of the Photogrammetry Section in the Design Mapping and Automation Bureau. Responsibilities include using digital photogrammetric workstations for mapping projects, reviewing and editing digital photogrammetric mapping, acquiring and evaluating aerial photography and point cloud data, and utilizing Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) for aerial imagery. The role may also involve serving within the Incident Command System to support emergency situations.

Requirements

• Five years of technical experience in the fields of mapping or digital photogrammetry.
• A bachelor's degree, including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in relevant fields such as remote sensing, statistics, spatial analysis, CADD, UAS mapping and aviation, cartography, LiDAR, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, and/or photogrammetry.

Responsibilities

• Use digital photogrammetric workstations for the compilation of mapping projects, digital terrain, and orthoimagery.
• Review and edit digital photogrammetric mapping and digital terrain.
• Acquire and evaluate aerial photography, point cloud data (LiDAR), and stereocompilation services.
• Coordinate with regional design staff to determine project requirements.
• Prepare written correspondence and specifications.
• Develop and monitor project schedules and technical requirements.
• Use Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) to acquire aerial imagery.
• Create 3D models, orthoimagery, and point cloud data from UAS imagery.
• Prepare written correspondence and specifications regarding the Photogrammetry Section UAS program.
