Purpose The Manufacturing Welding Engineer role ensures safety, quality, and efficiency in the welding process while serving as the company authority on welding-related quality issues.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of career-related experience.
  • Experience: In-depth knowledge of GMAW welding processes, metallurgy, and welding codes (AWS D1.1, AWS D14.3). Experience with robotic welding systems, including specification, implementation, and both online and offline programming.
  • Certification(s) & License(s): American Welding Society certifications preferred (e.g., Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng)) or ability to obtain soon after employment.
  • Leadership: Ability to guide and influence others in the adoption of best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with engineering and programming software tools, as well as standard office applications.
  • Other Requirements: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to communicate technical information effectively across functions. Commitment to safety and adherence to EFCO’s Core Values.

Responsibilities

  • Quality & Process Development (35%): Develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification Records in accordance with AWS, ASME, and other industry standards. Implement process improvements in welding methods, equipment, and fixturing to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency. Provide technical guidance on joint design, welder access, weld distortion, and defect prevention. Conduct Engineering Drawing Reviews and recommend changes to improve manufacturability and weld quality.
  • Training & Knowledge Development (30%): Develop and deliver training programs and materials for welding operators and non-welding team members. Train Quality Assurance personnel on proper inspection of welds. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of welding technology, industry best practices, and safety standards.
  • Safety Compliance (20%): Ensure all welding activities comply with company safety rules and regulatory requirements. Identify and correct safety hazards, unsafe acts, and equipment malfunctions. Promote a safe working environment and support proactive safety initiatives.

  • Additional duties may be assigned to meet organizational goals and priorities.
