About The Position

Trane Technologies is hiring a Test Manufacturing Engineer in La Crosse, WI. This role serves as the manufacturing engineering process owner for water‑cooled Centravac chiller assembly and test operations. The position provides day‑to‑day support for machine capability, process mapping, set‑ups, quality controls, routings, and cycle times. The engineer will help ensure that assembly and testing processes run safely, efficiently, and with the highest quality standards.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technologies preferred (Electrical). Relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Prior experience with automation equipment and tooling.
  • Proven experience in PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming (Allen Bradley, Ignition, Inrules, SQL, VB, Kepware, etc.).
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Rockwell, Eaton, and Danfoss drives or starters preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HMI development and configuration.
  • Experience with a variety of industrial electrical and controls applications preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems in semi‑ or fully‑automated manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Project leadership and team‑building skills are a plus.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Initiative to grow technical, interpersonal, and career skills.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Support and optimize processes including control panel wiring, drive/starter installations, programming, end‑of‑line testing, leak testing, performance testing, paint, insulation, and shipping.
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for industrial automation projects.
  • Develop and program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
  • Create and maintain HMI (Human‑Machine Interface) applications.
  • Perform system integration, testing, and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including specifications, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
  • Provide in‑house manufacturing support for assembly and test cells to maximize product quality and reliability.
  • Ensure quality of assembly tests per product certificates of conformance, including proof, hydro, vacuum, end‑of‑line, vibration, and performance testing.
  • Drive continuous improvements for both high‑voltage and low‑voltage controls to enable early failure detection using DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, and field data.
  • Develop training materials for in‑process test plans including standard work, system diagrams, schematics, test sequences, validation, and verification plans.
  • Build knowledge of HVAC systems and components such as Trane Controls, power components, wiring, transformers, circuit breakers, contactors, overloads, VFDs, solid‑state starters, wye‑delta starters, compressors, evaporators, condensers, fans, and heating elements (gas/electric), along with Trane‑proprietary components.
