About The Position

We are seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer Co-op/Intern to support both manufacturing process development and production test development for robotic surgical devices. This is an onsite position based at our Pittsburgh, PA facility. The role offers hands-on experience with precision manufacturing, process validation, and functional testing in a regulated medical device environment. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to support initiatives that enhance product quality, reduce costs, and improve production efficiency.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with robotic systems, servo motors, and motion control systems is preferred.
  • Understanding of test methods, data acquisition systems, and calibration procedures.
  • Experience or coursework in control systems, embedded programming, or robotics is a plus.
  • Familiarity with programming tools like LabVIEW, Python, C, C++, or MATLAB for automation and data collection is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and improving manufacturing processes for robotic surgical devices, including precision assembly, wiring, and calibration.
  • Support the design, development, and validation of test protocols for functional, performance, and reliability production testing of robotic systems and subassemblies.
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and assembly documentation to support both production and testing.
  • Participate in process validation activities including test plans, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with designing and building test fixtures, tooling, and automation systems to improve production efficiency and streamline testing processes.
  • Perform functional testing, electrical continuity tests, calibration checks, and safety compliance testing for key system components.
  • Support troubleshooting activities for mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues in robotic assemblies.
  • Document all manufacturing process changes, test results, and engineering updates in accordance with regulatory requirements.
