2nd shift position 5% Shift Differential PURPOSE: Under general supervision, perform all required production operations to assemble basic to semi-complex assembled molds for shelling operations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Visually check individual pattern parts for surface defects; makes required repairs. Work from samples and any required special instructions to assemble patterns and runner systems, position and secure supports, metal chills, and other components and parts according to individual job requirements. Blend and smooth joints and connections, perform other associated duties to insure proper setup and gating of pattern for molding. Exercise care in the handling of patterns and completed units to avoid distortion of breakage, and to assure proper positioning of a wide variety of parts, components, supports, chills, vents, gates, and other features. Upon completion, prepare necessary forms pertinent to operation, and dispose of patterns as directed. Constructs complete runner systems for wax and plastic patterns; places and secures sprues, gates, cores, vents, risers, and other supports to obtain desired set-up. Cuts and forms wax supports using hands and hand tools. Constructs set-ups and notifies supervisor if completed dimension does not conform to engineering specifications. Uses creative ability and experience in preparing and determining gating set-up to control cost of operations. Work involves a variety of hand operations requiring a high degree of manual dexterity and close visual attention to properly position and blend a large number of parts, and to maintain complex inter-relationships and close dimensional tolerances in order to assure acceptable parts. Detect and report defective materials, equipment and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Follow prescribed safety regulations. Perform a variety of other tasks of equal or less complexity as assigned by supervisor, or as required by position.
