The Manufacturing Team Lead coordinates day-to-day production for an assigned area/shift, ensuring people, materials, and equipment are organized to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets. This is a first shift position, Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The role is hands-on, leading by example on the line (plastic welding, routing, cutting, forming) while coaching operators, confirming standard work, and maintaining production flow and 5S.

Requirements

  • Commitment to workplace safety: Safety-first mindset; reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training preferred.
  • 3–5 years in a manufacturing/production environment (plastics or fabrication preferred).
  • 1–3 years as a team lead, cell lead, or senior operator directing day-to-day work.
  • Proficient with basic shop math, measuring tools (calipers, gauges), reading work instructions/drawings.
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP transactions (reviewing work orders, confirmations, inventory moves).
  • Basic PC skills (Excel, Word, Outlook); barcode scanners/data entry.
  • Clear communicator—able to give direction, coach peers, and escalate issues constructively.
  • Problem solver with a bias for action; comfortable in fast-paced, changing priorities.
  • Customer focus and pride in workmanship; holds self and others accountable to standards.
  • Work overtime as assigned.
  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-50lbs occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.

  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Required to wear Safety Glasses & Steel/Composite toe shoes while in Warehouse or Manufacturing Areas

  • Forklift/pallet jack experience preferred (or ability to certify).

Responsibilities

  • Assign work, set priorities, and balance labor across workstations to meet takt/throughput goals.
  • Communicate safety alerts, quality concerns, schedule changes, and daily targets.
  • Monitor boards / KPI cells (output, first-pass yield, scrap/rework, downtime) and escalate barriers quickly.
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback; model positive, professional conduct.
  • Champion a zero-incident culture; enforce PPE and lockout/tagout where required.
  • Conduct point-of-use safety and 5S audits; drive corrective actions and sustainment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Ensure products are built to work instructions, drawings, and specs; audit critical-to-quality steps.
  • Perform in-process checks and final verifications; contain nonconforming material and initiate NCRs as needed.
  • Partner with Quality to implement countermeasures and reinforce standard work.
  • Build product per work order using approved methods; set up and operate equipment and fixtures safely.
  • Use the MRP/ERP system to review work orders, record production, backflush/issue components, and confirm transactions are accurate and timely.
  • Support carton, label, and packaging standards for finished goods.
  • Train and cross-train team members on plastic fabrication processes (plastic welding, routing, cutting, bending/shaping) and workstation standard work.
  • Verify competency and sign-offs; refresh training after changes or quality escapes.
  • Coordinate material availability with Warehouse; minimize line shortages and WIP buildup.
  • Assist with cycle counts; help investigate variances and implement fixes.
  • Perform basic preventive care and checks; request maintenance promptly when needed.
  • Participate in kaizen/CI activities; identify waste, propose improvements, and help implement quick wins.
  • Contribute to root-cause problem solving (5-Why, fishbone) to reduce defects and downtime.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned; provide vacation/absence coverage for leads.
