About The Position

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions. We are seeking a Manufacturing Support Engineer to document the development and integration of our autonomous Prufrock machine—a 310-foot, 800,000-pound marvel with over 10,000 components, capable of drilling tunnels 10x faster than traditional methods using Zero-People-in-Tunnel (ZPIT) technology.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Bachelors or graduate degree in an engineering discipline or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience on a manufacturing floor
  • Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to effectively interact and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
  • Hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and/or testing - can be in a professional, academic or recreational setting.
  • Acute attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in machine design & Manufacturing.
  • 2+ years of experience on a manufacturing floor.
  • Knowledgeable in mechatronics, mechanism design, fluid power system concepts and design, dynamics, material selection, testing methods, and common machining and fabrication processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and assembly of documentation packages needed to efficiently produce and integrate our Tunnel Boring Machine - Prufrock. Examples include: Work instructions, Bills of materials, QC documentation, and part travelers.
  • Work hand in hand with our manufacturing team members to create work instructions for complex builds of electrical, mechanical, and fluid systems.
  • Participate in builds of complex assemblies to identify areas for improvement in our existing production processes/documentation and modify these processes/documentation as needed.
  • Review and provide feedback on manufacturability, simplicity of designs, and any assembly specific needs to increase production speed of each assembly in our TBMs.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders in the integration process; design, production, build, and operation.
