About The Position

This Manufacturing Scientist is responsible for actively developing, optimizing and troubleshooting production processes for the Alexandria site’s Column Packing, Custom Formulation, and PolyFrit Production teams, their products, and their supporting Quality Control activities. These production workstreams operate within ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality systems, requiring focuses and strengths in efficiency, quality, compliance, and teamwork to ensure both individual and workstream success. Regular activities will include transfer of knowledge from R&D to Production, troubleshooting, designing and execution of experiments, data analysis, and preparing reports or presentations. This role will partner on a daily basis with team members across the organization including Engineering, R&D, Lab Operations, Material Handling, Quality Assurance, and others. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent amount of experience
  • 5 years of demonstrated work experience in a related field
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 certified quality management system (QMS), or equivalent environment
  • Experience working with automated laboratory instrumentation and automated processes
  • Working knowledge or training in Lean principles or Continuous Improvement concepts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and inventory management system
  • Professional presence and strong attention to detail
  • Experience in a consumables manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • ISO 9001 or 13485 auditor certified
  • Lean Green Belt certified

Responsibilities

  • Partner with team members to ensure that new processes and products are transferred from R&D to Production in a complete and timely manner.
  • Proactively interface with production, customers, other LGC teams to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that positively impact quality, capacity, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop experiments and test plans, including authoring and executing protocols, to validate manufacturing and QC processes.
  • Parter with R&D and Lab Operations to define product stability and shipping requirements.
  • Partner with Production, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service to analyze customer and/or product/process-related risks in connection with CAPA, non-conformance, audit findings, and product/production risk assessments.
  • Lead or support investigations and resolution of product failures.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to collect data, troubleshoot issues, and provide timeline, accurate responses.
  • Ensure that all processes are accurately documented and released through LGC’s documentation control procedures.
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained on all required procedures prior to performing tasks and verify training as needed.
  • Apply scientific methodology to testing, data collection and analysis and provide actionable information to key stakeholders to enable informed decision making.
  • Make recommendations to management as necessary regarding resources required to meet manufacturing objectives, including raw materials, equipment, staffing, and production space.
  • Manage the priorities of each team to ensure alignment with evolving company and customer needs, and communicate those priorities clearly to stakeholders.
  • Represent Operations in design team efforts for new products, product improvements, and new-use implementations.
  • Assist Engineering, R&D and Lab Operations in product and process improvements.
  • Support Engineering Change Order and Change Control processes.
  • Collaborate with R&D on OQ and PQ execution and completion for product and process validation.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Responds with flexibility and collaboration to the needs of the business – both internally and externally – by addressing important corporate initiatives when requested by management.
