Pratt & Whitney is working to once again transform the future of flight—designing, building and servicing engines unlike any the world has ever seen. This position is designed to give individuals with little or no machining or grinding background the skills they need to become a Certified Operator at Pratt & Whitney. Employees selected for this position will attend a 3-week training program and participate in 4-8 weeks of on-the-job training. This is a 3rd Shift Opportunity, Monday - Friday (5 x 8) from 11:30pm-7:00am. The business unit is Shared Services. Employees will learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes or VTC’s to perform routine production operations on a variety of similar weldments and assemblies. They will work from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instruction to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring and/or chamfering operations involving a limited number of surfaces to be machined. They will verify conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments and obtain operator Certification to be able to accept/reject parts. Additionally, they will learn to maintain machines by performing required total preventive maintenance (TPM) and work collaboratively with engineers, quality assurance, programmers and other production personnel to resolve machining problems and assist in part process development.
