About The Position

As the Manufacturing Manager, you will lead the production of high-complexity, custom electronic equipment destined for critical federal government applications in a high mix/low volume facility. You will manage the full project lifecycle, transitioning products from initial engineering models through to ruggedized, fieldable products. You will oversee a sophisticated technical stack including SMT, multi-stage testing, and precision mechanical integration. Beyond floor operations, you will serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external technical, cost and schedule proposals, ensuring that our manufacturing services are accurately scoped, priced, and delivered on time.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in manufacturing leadership, specifically within a High-Mix / Low-Volume electronics environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract. Some contracts may have higher-level clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Full Lifecycle Production: Lead the transition of products from R&D/Engineering models into low-rate initial production and full fieldable status.
  • Electronics & SMT: Direct oversight of SMT Lines optimized for high-mix changeovers and precision placement.
  • Complex Assembly: Manage high-precision Manual and Mechanical Assembly for custom, often ruggedized, electronic enclosures.
  • Technical Engineering: Partner closely with Process and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure "Design for Manufacturability" (DFM) is maintained across all custom builds.
  • Rigorous Testing: Oversight of Automated Test, Functional Testing, and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) (e.g., thermal, vibration, and humidity) to meet stringent federal standards.
  • Forecasting: Expertly forecasting resources in a fluctuating, project-based environment to ensure labor and material readiness.
  • Project Lifecycle Management: Ensure production schedules meet contract milestones, managing the nuances between prototype builds and final deliverables.
  • Compliance & Security: Maintain strict adherence to government quality standards (e.g., AS9100, IPC-A-610, or J-STD-001) and any relevant security/clearance protocols.
  • Agile Resource Allocation: Adapt staffing and equipment priorities rapidly to accommodate a high-mix portfolio with shifting government priorities.
  • Mentorship: Build a highly skilled, cross-trained workforce capable of pivoting between different custom projects and technical requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean methodologies specifically tailored for low-volume environments (e.g., QRM - Quick Response Manufacturing) to reduce lead times.
  • Manage departmental budgets, focusing on the high-cost-of-quality and specialized equipment required for government-grade electronics.
  • Proven experience building products for Federal/Defense customers; familiar with the documentation and traceability required for government contracts.
  • Hands-on understanding of SMT, PCBA, and the hardware-to-software integration involved in Functional and Environmental Testing
