About The Position

Manufacturing Maintenance Technician – Day Shift (Troy, MI) Are you extremely mechanically skilled and comfortable fixing, maintaining, and operating machines? Do you prefer hands-on work, clear expectations, and staying productive throughout the day? Oakwood Veneer Company is hiring a Facilities Maintenance Technician for our Troy, Michigan facility. This is a full-time, day shift position working Monday–Friday, typically 8:30am to 5:00pm. This role reports directly to the General Manager and plays a critical role in keeping our equipment, buildings, and production running safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on position for someone who is very mechanically adept. You will maintain and repair machines, forklifts, and buildings across multiple facilities totaling approximately 58,000 square feet. When maintenance work is caught up or during downtime, you will also work as a machine operator to support daily production. This role involves moderately physical work, being on your feet, lifting, using tools, and working around machinery throughout the day.

Requirements

  • Experience in facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, or machine maintenance
  • Very strong mechanical aptitude and comfort troubleshooting equipment
  • Ability to operate production machinery when needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to perform moderately physical work and lift up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Extremely mechanically inclined and hands-on
  • Able to switch between maintenance work and machine operation as needed
  • Works independently and manages priorities well
  • Communicates clearly with management, coworkers, and outside vendors
  • Takes ownership of keeping equipment and buildings in good working condition

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on 15+ production machines
  • Handle routine maintenance on 4–6 hi-lo (forklifts)
  • Take care of general building and grounds needs, including: light plumbing, light electrical, light painting, minor repairs, replacing light bulbs, installing insulation or equipment, grounds cleanup, and snow removal beyond what our removal company provides
  • Assist with setting up or relocating equipment such as vending machines or office machines, handle basic computer setup, and work with our external IT provider
  • Serve as the internal point person coordinating with outside vendors such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors when larger facility issues arise
  • Step into a machine operator role to keep production moving and allow you to properly train staff on machine safety when maintenance needs are light
  • Responsible for safety compliance and training as well as ensuring the facility complies with the highest level of safety standards
