About The Position

Amphenol Fiber Systems International (AFSI) is a full service fiber optic company specializing in the fabrication and manufacture of fiber optic connectivity products and systems. AFSI, located in Allen, Texas, has and will continue to base its strategy on technical and application support, quality assurance, product performance and value. We are seeking a highly skilled Class A Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes, with the ability to read complex blueprints, work with tight tolerances, and ensure high-quality workmanship. This role requires excellent technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
  • Minimum [5+] years of experience as a machinist, with at least [2+] years at a Class A level
  • Strong knowledge of manual machining and CNC operations (including G-code and M-code understanding)
  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Familiarity with ISO, AS9100, or other quality standards is a plus

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-axis CNC machines
  • Programming experience with Esprit or similar CAM software
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device industries

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate manual and CNC machines including lathes, mills, grinders, and other shop equipment
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts for conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMMs
  • Perform layout work and make complex machine setups with minimal supervision
  • Make adjustments to machining processes to improve efficiency and quality
  • Maintain tools, machines, and work area in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and work with engineering to resolve design or tooling challenges
  • Follow all safety regulations and company policies
  • Train and mentor junior machinists as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation and production records
