About The Position

This opportunity is designed to give interns or youth apprentice (YA) a holistic view of what Metal Craft, located in Elk River, MN has to offer in a variety of departments. This paid learning opportunity is a minimum of 12-weeks. Intern/YA will be provided hands on learning and job shadowing experiences which will give the student an opportunity to develop skills to contribute to the success of the business. In this work-based experience students will be assigned mentor(s) and/or trainer(s). The purpose for this role is to allow high school machining/industrial students the opportunity to gain hands-on manufacturing experience.

Requirements

High School Students 16+ years must be enrolled in CTE, Youth Apprentice or similar manufacturing program.
Students must be enrolled in the Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing or Industrial program.
Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
Must be able to work in other areas on an as needed basis.
Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Job shadow in various departments such as but not limited to; Production, Quality, Engineering, Programming, Assembly, Finishing and Shipping departments.
Run machines and use a variety of hand tools and measuring equipment.
Perform simple setups and troubleshooting (only if supervised by full-time machinist mentor).
Check parts with hard gauging, various measurement tools and CMM.
Perform periodic quality checks as described in operation layouts.
Package, wash, and deburr as described in operation layouts or otherwise directed by full-time machinist mentor, engineer, or supervisor.
Keep work area clean and organized.
Intern will be responsible for the quality of the parts that he or she produces.
Op Layouts (assist with the completion of op layouts).
Other duties as assigned.
Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of conduct.
