The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for performing safety and environmental audits, ergonomic assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, accident/incident investigations, and safety/health training. In addition, this position will recommend correction to deficiencies, eliminate hazards and contribute to the overall improvement of environmental health and safety programs and processes. Establish and maintain required environmental health and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure the health, safety, and security of employees and assure compliance with applicable governmental regulations and corporate policies. Provide EHS direction, assistance, and support for all management and manufacturing staff members. Respond to emergencies, injuries, incidents, and/or crisis (on call basis) within the facility and lead efforts to prevent future loss. Perform safety and environmental audits, inspections and accident/incident investigations by observing employee activities and workplace conditions, submitting recommendations to management to correct deficiencies, eliminating hazards and improving the overall programs and processes. Lead ergonomic initiatives within the facility by conducting ergonomic assessments of all manufacturing tasks, recommending ergonomic improvements and maintaining a log of lifting and hands/arms ergonomic scores; leading efforts to reduce scores and high risk tasks per Corporate Loss Prevention guidelines annually. Lead the safety committee in establishing and creating a zero accident and injury culture for all team members and provide follow-up and response to all employee safety suggestions. Conduct safety and environmental training programs per corporate guidelines and consult with external specialists or training providers as necessary; includes areas such as forklift and scissor lift operation, emergency action planning, Lockout/Tagout, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, toolbox talks and monthly safety workshops. Handle all safety reporting and recordkeeping for the facility including the OSHA 300 injury log, monthly injury, and First Aid reports for CLP, safety training, waste manifests, industrial hygiene monitoring, and accident/incident investigations. Follow Six Sigma lean manufacturing standards to keep work area clean and safe from hazards. Perform other duties as assigned within the nature and level of work.
