Job Summary: The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead the manufacturing engineering team to ensure efficient and effective production of high-quality products. This role involves strategic planning, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing capabilities, productivity, reliability, and availability. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in manufacturing engineering, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving operational excellence, particularly through deployment of automation, structured problem solving and reliability engineering principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field from an accredited engineering program
  • 8+ years of experience as manufacturing engineer. With at least 5+ years at a senior manufacturing engineer level
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in manufacturing software and tools.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience managing manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Experience in life sciences, automated environments, injection molding, or regulated industries.
  • Experience with leading and teaching formalized problem-solving techniques such as 8D, DMAIC, PDCA, and A3.
  • Experience in new product implementation (NPI), manufacturing readiness, and plant startup.
  • Clean room experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Implement tiered daily management practices to ensure effective communication and problem-solving at all levels.
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Analyze and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes and eliminate waste.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, integrating advanced technologies such as robotics, IoT, MES, SCADA, inspection systems, vision systems, pick-and-place and controls.
  • Ensure the reliability and availability of automated systems.
  • Manage manufacturing engineering projects from conception to completion, including administration of the engineering project funnel.
  • Develop and manage capital budgets for engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project timelines and objectives are met.
  • Allocate resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, and manage departmental budgets.
  • Lead the manufacturing readiness for new product introductions.
  • Collaborate with R&D and product development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Conduct Installation Qualification (IQ) to verify that new equipment and processes meet required specifications.
  • Ensure smooth transition from prototype to full-scale production.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead initiatives to implement changes.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process-related issues.
  • Utilize formalized problem-solving techniques such as 8D, DMAIC, PDCA, and A3.
  • Ensure adoption of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) to maintain accurate and reliable documentation of manufacturing processes and quality control measures.
  • Implement Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to ensure precision and consistency in manufacturing processes.
  • Implement and follow change management processes
  • Develop strategies to enhance the reliability and availability of manufacturing systems and equipment including injection molding, automation and manual assembly processes.
  • Implement predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and analyze equipment performance data to identify and address potential issues.
  • Own vendor support contracts and relationships to support Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) service level agreements.
  • Develop and manage spares planning and rationale to ensure critical components are available to minimize production interruptions.
  • Work closely with other departments, including production, quality, process engineering, tooling, and R&D.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Prepare and present regular updates on manufacturing performance and improvement initiatives.
