About The Position

The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at least three days per week or as directed by the business unit leader. The primary work location is the Milford Proving Ground, with additional onsite work possible at the Warren Tech Center and other Southeast Michigan locations. The Role The ME Execution Lead Engineer will play a key role in supporting specialty and low‑volume programs by developing and refining manufacturing processes, designing and integrating equipment and tooling, and overseeing installation through steady state operation. The role requires effective use of personnel, materials, equipment, and facilities to ensure flawless execution across all launch phases. Work will be performed both at centralized GM sites and within assembly plants, leveraging a high level of independent judgment and collaboration with cross‑functional partners to drive execution excellence.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in automation, tooling, and installation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical) or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to apply process engineering disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and production equipment.
  • Familiarity with the Global Launch Process and the Vehicle Development Process.
  • Demonstrated analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, build relationships, solve problems, and resolve issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Material Strategies (LMS).
  • High level of analytical ability to address complex or unusual problems
  • Self‑motivated with a strong focus on continuous improvement
  • Ability to travel to assembly sites as needed
  • Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire
  • This position requires eligibility to access classified information at the Secret U.S. Security Clearance level for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. The successful candidate must have eligibility to access classified information at that level.
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.
  • The position is subject to export control restrictions and requires the successful candidate to be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).

Responsibilities

  • Lead all new programs and launches, model changes, and current production activities within the assigned area.
  • Define the scope for the area (e.g., trim, chassis), including product and manufacturing requirements such as processes, tooling, materials, workstation setup, and facility needs.
  • Assess and plan efficient material flow to support future material movement strategies.
  • Develop interfaces and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to establish common tooling and processes across the department and other partnering groups.
  • Develop tooling Statements of Requirements (SORs).
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to external vendors.
  • Lead the design and build of tools, manage construction projects within assembly plants, and oversee process and tooling integration, plant installation, launch readiness, and continuous improvement of production equipment and tools.
  • Manage program funding and create/track SAP purchase orders and spot buys for tooling, equipment, and manpower.
  • Support plant build events and ensure readiness for key launch milestones.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve launch‑related issues.
  • Ability to travel domestically as required.
