About The Position

Ready to shape the future of manufacturing? As a Manufacturing Engineering Co-op at Rennscot MFG, you'll be at the forefront of additive manufacturing technology while building a comprehensive skill set across advanced manufacturing processes. This hands-on role puts you in the center of our additive manufacturing operations, where you'll work with cutting-edge 3D printing technologies, optimize build processes, and support post-processing workflows. You'll also gain valuable experience in CNC machining and CAM programming, giving you a complete understanding of how additive and subtractive processes work together to create exceptional products.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Interest in additive manufacturing technologies and processes
  • Familiarity with CAD software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Understanding of CNC machining and subtractive manufacturing concepts
  • Exposure to CAM software (ESPRIT, hyperMILL, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with additive manufacturing systems (FDM, SLA, SLS, metal printing, etc.)
  • Knowledge of additive design principles and topology optimization
  • Operated CNC machines (mills or lathes), especially Heidenhain, Okuma, & Haas controllers
  • Understanding of G-code and machine setup
  • Can read and interpret engineering drawings with GD&T
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles
  • Experience with additive post-processing techniques

Responsibilities

  • Plan, setup, and execute additive manufacturing builds using industrial 3D printing systems
  • Optimize build orientation, support structures, and process parameters for quality and efficiency
  • Post-process additively manufactured parts including support removal, heat treatment, and surface finishing
  • Troubleshoot build failures and drive continuous improvement in additive processes
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes for new additive technologies and materials
  • Create, simulate, and verify CNC programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling and turning centers using hyperMILL, ESPRIT & Fusion 360
  • Design hybrid manufacturing workflows that combine additive and subtractive processes
  • Support machining operations for post-processing additive parts and traditional CNC production
  • Collaborate with machinists on setup, prove-out, and first-article validation
  • Design and fabricate workholding and fixturing for both additive and subtractive processes
  • Contribute to process development, refining toolpaths and cut strategies for improved quality
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for production issues
  • Document manufacturing processes, build parameters, and setup procedures for repeatability
  • Operate CNC machinery and additive systems to support prototype and production work
  • Perform setup, inspection, and basic troubleshooting across manufacturing equipment
  • Support continuous improvement projects focused on machine utilization and process capability
  • Cross-train with Quality and Assembly teams based on business needs
