About The Position

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company's products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities. Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph: We are looking for an integral member to work with our Core ME (Manufacturing Engineering) Team. This position will support our Process Engineering, Plastics Engineering, and CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) teams. These teams support processes and equipment such as heat-treating furnaces, induction hardeners, welding equipment, plastic injection molding, and part measurement with CMM equipment. This position involves many opportunities for problem solving, creative thinking, and interaction with Operations, Engineering, Prototype, Validation, and Design Teams. The ideal candidate would have a good understanding of part inspection and measurement, materials science, and plastic processing.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be attending a 2 year college or 4 year university local to Saginaw
  • Candidate must be available to work onsite in Saginaw
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors in Engineering, Mechanical preferred
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Standing: While working with production equipment.
  • Sitting: Office environment, working at a computer, meetings
  • Speaking & Listening: Communicating with work team, suppliers, customers
  • Walking/Mobility: For walking around the manufacturing plants, and office areas.
  • Lifting: ability to occasionally lift large tooling and parts no heavier than 20 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Solid works or similar CAD software highly preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support CMM Core Team
  • Coordinate on-going inventory of spare probe tooling for all CMM's.
  • Maintain list of site Probe configurations and probe elements.
  • Perform gage qualification studies on hard gages and on CMM programs as part of the evaluation of the measurement system performance.
  • Support Process Engineering Team
  • Work in our Process Development lab to make prototype parts
  • Help with tooling and equipment runoff/qualification as needed
  • Support Welding and heat treating production problems
  • Support Plastics Engineering Team
  • Assist with plastic mold design and runoff
  • Assist with inspection of plastic molded parts
  • Support relocation of production injection molding equipment
