About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer at Canoga Perkins is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating manufacturing processes to enhance production efficiency. This role involves developing and improving manufacturing methods, analyzing workforce utilization, and implementing lean manufacturing techniques to minimize waste. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure efficient production methods and maintain manufacturing equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience in electronic manufacturing, especially surface mount and through-hole processes.
  • Capability to identify and troubleshoot soldering defects and resolve process issues.
  • Knowledge of PCBA manufacturing and box build.
  • Experience with wave solder process and ability to identify defects and minimize them.
  • Familiarity with SMT machines (Stencil printer, Pick and Place, Reflow oven, AOI, etc.).
  • Ability to generate reflow oven profiles for mixed assembly products using thermal profiling software (M.O.L.E.).
  • Experience with electro-mechanical assembly processes and ability to generate precise manufacturing work instructions for production operators.
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 certification.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably QAD.
  • Knowledge of ESD compliance and standards (ANSI/ESD S20.20).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and TL 9000 standards.
  • Ability to work closely with others and train operators for various assemblies.
  • Hands-on ability to perform minor repairs on SMT lines and other manufacturing equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with manufacturing software, QAD, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Equivalent electrical or mechanical engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of PCB and MRT.
  • TL9000 and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Implement lean manufacturing techniques to eliminate manufacturing wastes.
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Monitor and adjust the manufacturing labor standard in QAD to reduce labor variance.
  • Create and update process routings in QAD.
  • Create precise work instructions for product assembly in production as directed.
  • Take the initiative and be proactive in problem-solving.
  • Be involved in the manufacturing process on a daily basis, including setup of production runs and work cells, SMT, reflow ovens, depanelization machine, burn-in room, test cells, etc.
  • Manage related building and facility maintenance with contractors.
  • Responsible for maintenance and service of all manufacturing equipment.
  • Keep maintenance records of all equipment up to date and write new procedures along with the QA manager.
  • Work well in teams formed to resolve quality issues, make continuous improvements, and improve procedures and work instructions in coordination with the QA department.
  • Support the head of manufacturing and supervisors for their technical engineering needs with plant and equipment.
