About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer will plan, design, set up, modify, optimize, and monitor manufacturing processes to enhance safety, quality, and productivity. The manufacturing engineer will also manage capacity addition, process improvement, and/or equipment replacement projects including project scope, costing, business case development, resource planning, timeline, and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates company values and shares the organizational commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and a high-performance workforce through positive employee relations.
  • Follows all environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, practices, protocols, and regulations.
  • Proactively addresses any potential EHS issues and reports any unsafe conditions.
  • Sets a positive example regarding EHS and a safety-first culture.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly (6S) work area and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment and quality products.
  • Supports Operations and Maintenance in reducing or eliminating equipment and tooling downtime.
  • Manages capacity addition, process improvement, and/or equipment replacement projects.
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional project team to develop a proposal of improvement initiatives.
  • Applies a hands-on approach to problem solving and project/solution implementation.
  • Manages and forecasts associated project capital spending compared to budgeted costs.
  • Generates vendor technical scope of supply documents and works closely with purchasing team in negotiating capital purchases.
  • Prepares and presents detailed financial analysis including project budgets, ROI analysis, and forecasts.
  • Collaborates with EHS, operations, and process engineering to improve safety and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Supports and maintains error-proofing methodologies.
  • Supports facility and production line enhancements.
  • Documents all activities as required.
  • Helps to optimize maintenance programs and practices.
  • Composes and publishes standard training documents and single-point lessons.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement behaviors by identifying and resolving problems.
  • Participates in continuous learning and development of knowledge and skills required to effectively perform the essential functions of this role.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, orderly (visually managed) work environment to promote safety and productivity.
  • Travels as required to support customer demands, which may include limited international travel (approximately 10 - 15% travel).

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated manufacturing engineering and capital project management in metal working/machining manufacturing process.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing, mechanical, and electrical processes.
  • Expertise designing, operating, troubleshooting, or maintaining manual and CNC machine tools.
  • Practical knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma practices.
  • Strong skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint).
  • High degree of mechanical and technical skills.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and project manage in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and create mechanical, electrical drawings.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis including Six Sigma, control charts, etc.
  • High degree of competency with measuring devices both in (SI) metric and US customary units.

Nice-to-haves

  • CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of computer or PLC-based machine control systems is desirable.
