The Manufacturing Engineer (1st Shift) will assist with evaluating customer drawings for piston rings and axle shims and then creating detailed manufacturing build plans to be used in an automated machine shop and chrome plating shop environment to achieve plant goals for quality, productivity, and cost. This role works cross functionally with other engineers and operators to root cause product and process problems and assist with solutions or enhancements. The engineer will also assist with plans and design methods to continuously improve production quality and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related field required
  • Project Management - Has a good understanding of and effectively applies project management techniques for moderately complex projects
  • Fundamentals of Manufacturing - Basic competence and knowledge in the following areas: Mathematics, Machine design, Materials, Manufacturing Processes, Manufacturing Management, Quality Control, Computer Applications and Automation
  • Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis, preferably with a formal tool
  • Training, Leading, or Coaching experience a plus
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Individual must be able to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times

Responsibilities

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods
  • Establishes internal engineering Request For Process Adjustment (RFPA), processes and incorporates the changes, and ensures changes become effective
  • Establishes the processes and routings to handle discrepant material, returned products (RMAs), and internal jobs to be reworked
  • Institutes changes in the production processes and/or recommends adjustments to product pricing
  • Performs engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications
  • Consults with engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
  • Consults with vendors to determine part specifications and recommends the purchase of equipment and materials used in manufacturing and production
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions relating to Capital projects
  • Consults with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
  • Other duties as assigned
