About The Position

Emerson is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for an exciting opportunity in their Marshalltown, Iowa location. This role is based in a dynamic and high-tech production facility, focusing on the manufacturing of large custom-designed control valves. It is a hands-on position that requires close collaboration with the machining team to ensure products are built efficiently and to the highest standards. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, technically skilled, and enjoy being active on the production floor. Key responsibilities include designing and developing advanced tooling and equipment using 3D CAD software, collaborating with Product Engineers on new product development for manufacturability, standardizing manufacturing best practices, supporting CNC programming and tooling selection, problem-solving and root cause analysis for manufacturing issues, and mentoring tool design co-op students.

Requirements

  • BS or BEng in a manufacturing related field
  • Strong Understanding of manufacturing and machining processes
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Basic Statics and Strengths of Materials Knowledge
  • Excellent problem-solving skills & the ability to work independently or as part of team

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in the control valve or fluid control industry.
  • Professional experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge and application of functional gauging and measuring instruments.
  • Understands material properties and behavior, and stress-strain analysis to supplement FEA (Finite Element Analysis) via SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process capabilities.
  • SolidWorks and skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code

Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Advanced Tooling and Equipment: Utilize 3D CAD software to craft sophisticated tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and facility equipment. This includes analyzing functional requirements to build designs that ensure safe and efficient operation, meeting stringent performance and safety standards.
  • Collaborate on New Product Development: Partner with Product Engineers and cross-functional teams to optimize new product designs for manufacturability, ensuring flawless integration of design and production processes.
  • Standardize and Document Manufacturing Best Practices: Develop comprehensive documentation of best practices, manufacturing workflows, and procedures to establish standardized, efficient production methods across the organization.
  • Support CNC Programming and Tooling Selection: Provide expert mentorship to CNC programmers, advising on the selection of appropriate fixtures and tooling to ensure precision, reliability, and efficiency in production.
  • Problem-Solving and Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving methodologies. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to improve production processes and eliminate recurring issues.
  • Mentor and Develop Talent: Lead and mentor tool design co-op students, offering challenging, hands-on projects and training in company-specific procedures, CAD software, and industry-standard manufacturing practices, encouraging the next generation of engineering talent.
