About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes, workstations, and plant layouts to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality. This role requires hands-on experience with tooling, fixtures, finishing, and cleaning equipment, as well as expertise in lean manufacturing principles and creating process documentation. This position will report to the Director of Operations and collaborate daily with the quality manager, production manager and project manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, process improvement, and tooling/fixture design.
  • Hands-on experience with workstation fabrication, plant layout, and finishing/cleaning equipment.
  • Hands on experience with plant layout – including air, power, safety and flow.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and standard work documentation.
  • Experience conducting time studies and implementing process improvements.
  • Proficiency in equipment utilization analysis and downtime reduction strategies.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear, concise documentation.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience working in an ISO Certified facility.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory compliance in manufacturing.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in automotive remanufacturing of rotating electrical products.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate workstations to optimize process flow and ergonomics.
  • Create and update plant layouts to maximize space utilization and workflow efficiency.
  • Coordinate moves and layout changes in the plant to improve flow, increase efficiency and maximize space utilization.
  • Develop and implement tooling, fixtures, and equipment to improve manufacturing efficiency and ergonomics.
  • Conduct time studies to identify bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
  • Lead and support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S implementation and continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and assist in training staff on standard work instructions and machine setup documentation.
  • Organize and maintain tooling and equipment to ensure optimal utilization and minimal downtime.
  • Monitor equipment performance, analyze downtime, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of finishing and cleaning equipment in the manufacturing process. Research and recommend equipment that will improve product appearance and performance.
  • Work closely with production, quality, maintenance, and safety teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.
  • Prepare and maintain capacity plans for each product line determining labor requirements to achieve output goals.
  • Work with Quality and Operations to ensure the control plan and PFMEA are followed.
