About The Position

Join our fast-paced printing facility as a Manufacturing Engineer and help drive efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement on the production floor. This role is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise for the evaluation, selection, installation, maintenance, reliability, modification and improvement of the infrastructure and manufacturing equipment for Jostens Printing Business, to include automation projects. You will partner with all departments and team members to support and drive current and new Quality, Cost, Delivery and Safety initiatives utilizing continuous improvement and lean methodologies. This role coordinates activities with a variety of outside contractors, setting scope of work, evaluating costs, and ensuring desired outcomes. You will be involved in equipment installation projects, monitoring and enhancing utility usage and requirements. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of Engineering experience in a manufacturing facility in a full time and/or internship capacity.
  • Technical Competencies: Excellent computer skills in Excel, MS Word, Power Point & Outlook email.
  • Engineering Design Software Skills: Experience in CAD Design Tools such as AutoCAD/SolidWorks and/or similar software.
  • Manufacturing knowledge: Working knowledge of production equipment and critical plant support systems. Possesses a solid foundation in both mechanical and electrical engineering principles, with practical application in plant operations.
  • Drive & Innovation: Demonstrates strong capability in organizing work, prioritizing tasks, and effectively delegating to appropriate resources. Improves existing processes, products or systems and finds ways to reduce waste or downtime.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborates closely with Engineers, contractors, and cross-functional teams to ensure efficient execution and continuous improvement of projects and operational initiatives.
  • Organizational Proficiency: Detail-oriented and effective time-management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Methodologies & Lean Principles: Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, and/or Lean Manufacturing Continuous Improvement training and/or experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean Six Sigma certification, TPM, or similar certifications.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of automation projects.
  • Printing experience (Commercial and/or Yearbook).

Responsibilities

  • Support Plant Infrastructure, Equipment & Automation: Responsible for assisting in the the evaluation, selection, installation, maintenance, reliability, modification, and continuous improvement of plant infrastructure and equipment, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment. Supports automation initiatives and projects to enhance plant performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance & Optimize Equipment: Partners with the Maintenance team to assess needs for new equipment, maintenance, modifications, and both scheduled and unscheduled repairs, as well as special projects as required.
  • Conduct Process Analysis: Perform PFMEA, statistical process control, and time and motion studies. Study operational sequences to improve business and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply Budget & Cost Control Initiatives: Develops and maintains strong relationships with external contractors and vendors while maintaining costs and budget performance. Participates in the development of capital and expense budgets and provides ongoing monthly review and oversight as assigned.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Support: Partners across all departments to drive Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety (QCDS) initiatives using continuous improvement and lean methodologies to enhance operational performance.
  • Assist with Risk Prevention & Support Facility Space Planning: participates in property loss prevention and insurance activities, including assessments, corrective actions, and claims management. Collaborates with engineering department and plant leadership to define space requirements and support effective facility allocation.
  • Demonstrate Operational Flexibility & Production Support: Provides support across production and other departments as needed, demonstrating flexibility in work schedule and responsiveness to shifting priorities and operational demands.
  • Ensure Safety Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Supports plant safety initiatives and procedures while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and maintaining a strong safety-first culture.
