About The Position

Actalent is looking to hire a Manufacturing Engineer (mid-level ideally) to support a growing client in the Columbia River Gorge. The Manufacturing Engineer will oversee the transition from prototype to full-rate production for a new hardware line. This role is responsible for designing and validating manufacturing processes, integrating quality standards, and ensuring production readiness across both legacy and new product lines. The position offers a unique opportunity to build a production line from the ground up-soldering stations, assembly areas, and test automation-while applying Lean and Six Sigma principles to optimize efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering (or similar).
  • 3-5+ years of experience in manufacturing or testing within aerospace, avionics or other regulated industries.
  • Demonstratable experience setting up a production line as a manufacturing engineer.
  • Ability to read and interpret designs and drawings; strong technical aptitude to understand products and optimize manufacturing/testing processes from Day 1.
  • Experience with circuit board design/debugging and SolidWorks are helpful skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and enthusiasm for hands-on problem-solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean/Six Sigma certification a bonus; training and strong knowledge required.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python for automation.
  • Manufacturing readiness experience, including setting up new production lines.
  • Hands-on mindset with practical experience in building, soldering, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) and test equipment automation.
  • Ability to manage and communicate with customers regarding technical manufacturing topics.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to evolving project needs.
  • Experience supporting supplier selection, audits, and ensuring supplier quality.
  • Background in other regulated industries, such as medical device or automotive manufacturing.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new products and processes to make an immediate impact.
  • DoD experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions, and test automation for avionics, electronic and electrical systems.
  • Set up and balance production lines, conduct time studies, and implement Lean/Six Sigma practices.
  • Lead production readiness, validation, and process improvement initiatives, including low-rate runs and subsequent ramp-up.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and supplier teams to troubleshoot circuit card issues and guide technicians.
  • Communicate effectively with customers on technical manufacturing topics and incorporate feedback into process improvements.
  • Automate testing and assembly tasks using scripting, PLCs, and servo systems; integrate environmental factors (pressure, temperature) into test processes.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as AS9100, FAA, and DoD.
