About The Position

The role of the Manufacturing Engineer is to evaluate existing processes/procedures and to configure new and innovative manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production process. The main focus of this position is on creating and maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving our production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers. The Manufacturing Engineer is an integral part of our Operations team and will work closely with various departments (i.e. Production, Technical Services, Logistics, Material Handling) to identify, develop, and deliver innovative solutions, driven to constantly improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards. This is a working supervisor position that is responsible for developing and improving the manufacturing processes of the Machine Shop as well as provides leadership and supervision to a team of programmers.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing Engineering degree
  • Manufacturing Engineering experience in a machining/fabrication environment; 3+ years
  • Experience managing capital equipment purchases
  • Programming and machining experience on a wide variety of machine tools; 3+ years
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including experience with ERP systems
  • Training and experience with process improvement methods such as Lean, 6 Sigma, QRM

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of programming, routings, and tooling.
  • Supervision of department employees including hiring, training and performance evaluation.
  • Responsible for all aspects of capital equipment purchases from identification through commissioning.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts within the Machine Shop in the areas of cellular manufacturing, setup reduction, 5S, workstation design, preventative maintenance, and design for manufacturability.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple departments within the company such as Mechanical Engineering, Assembly, Quality Control, and Purchasing to improve manufacturing operations.
  • Work closely with all Machine Shop employees to provide training and manufacturing support.
  • Establish best practices and standards for manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and execute annual tactical plans to support department goals for safety, quality, on time delivery, lead time, and manufacturing costs.
  • Research and evaluate new technology.
  • Model the Douglas Values and Leadership Qualities.
  • Energize team members by recognizing and rewarding positive contributions and actions that align with Douglas Values.
  • Redirect and coach employees whose actions are not in alignment with Douglas Values or whose results do not meet expectations.
