About The Position

Our client in Dearborn, MI is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer Tool & Die. This is a contract position. The role involves being a Tool Specialist in either Casting (Foundry) or Automation, executing the Vendor Tooling Procurement Process, and ensuring effective sourcing and timely negotiations in support of program finance. Responsibilities include developing tool sourcing strategies, coordinating GPDS Part Pedigree Deliverables, ensuring production tool timing, and developing analytical tools for best-in-class tool performance. The position requires managing relationships with suppliers and engineering teams, resolving technical issues, and developing a world-class supply base for assigned commodities.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience with Tooling commodity and corporate business acumen.
  • Ability to work with others and foster collaboration.
  • 5+ years of experience in tool-related field.
  • Impeccable communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • College bachelor's degree.
  • Tool making (construction/design) experience either at tool shop level or Tier 1.
  • Experience in costing/estimating tools.
  • Experience in cross-functional roles with a strong grasp of GPDS.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tool sourcing strategies in conjunction with the Purchasing matched pair.
  • Coordinate GPDS Part Pedigree Deliverables for all build events.
  • Ensure production tool timing and plans meet homeline delivery of tooling for TT requirement.
  • Develop analytical tools and strategies to deliver BIC tool performance and timing.
  • Responsible for cost status and target in cooperation with GVT buyers, program, engineering, cost estimating, and purchasing.
  • Identify key opportunities to deliver efficiencies in vendor tooling.
  • Work closely with Vendor Tooling Purchasing Buyer to deliver efficient tooling.
  • Act as a single point of contact for technical issues for suppliers and engineering.
  • Resolve emerging issues by engaging various stakeholders to drive GPDS timing deliverables.
  • Manage positive relationships with the supply base and plant personnel.
  • Monitor technical depth and quality of the supply base.
  • Develop a world-class supply base for assigned commodities.
  • Identify and develop tool supply base for emerging technologies.
  • Interface with Global Vendor Tooling teams to deliver Global and Regional programs.
