About The Position

Mainspring Energy is looking for an energetic individual contributor, passionate hands-on manufacturing engineer who enjoys implementing test equipment and testing processes in an industrial environment. You will join the product qualification team and your work will have a significant influence on our start-up company’s growth. You will directly contribute to transitioning our Linear Generator breakthrough technology to volume manufacturing and reaching a global scale. As a manufacturing engineer on the product qualification team you will support existing manufacturing test processes at the local pilot manufacturing line as well as at a larger scale contract manufacturer. These sustaining engineering efforts will play a crucial role in preparing the company to scale production. You will also develop new manufacturing test processes and tooling to accommodate our evolving product. From establishing functional requirements all the way to commissioning, you will work with talented engineers from various teams including: software and controls, mechanical/electrical/test engineering, quality, manufacturing and operations. You will also frequently collaborate with technicians, manufacturing partners, external equipment suppliers and contractors. This is an exciting opportunity for a manufacturing or process engineer with experience and interest in deploying manufacturing test systems. The role is based at Mainspring Headquarters in Menlo Park, California and is primarily on-site with limited travel within North America (less than 10%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Masters in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical or Mechatronics or Industrial)
  • 3+ years experience launching and ramping production, including functional and system integration testing
  • Proficiency in programming in at least one language (e.g. Python, MATLAB)
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams
  • Interest, ability or experience working on mechatronics, electro mechanical assemblies and power electronics
  • Hands-on mechanical or electrical engineering skills (ideally both!)
  • Proficient using product data management and CAD design/drafting software (ideally Solidworks)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and capture process & equipment requirements, Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Analyze production data to assess process capability of various in-process and end of line (EOL) test operations
  • Component selection, bill of material (BOM) generation and procurement process management
  • Creation of mechanical Integration 3D CAD models, 2D drawings for fabrication for part and assembly
  • Generate equipment documentation: test plans, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance manuals
  • Training and hand-off to Operations production staff
  • Participate in Failure Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis using 8D type methodologies
