About The Position

This role will support the design and execution of custom automation equipment for manufacturing. Specifically this will include managing the full mechanical scopes within projects, actively contribute to system integration by collaborating with cross-functional teams including robotics, vision, and controls to ensure performance and manufacturability of equipment. This role will be based in Brooklyn Park, MN, with occasional travel (10-20%) to sister companies throughout the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or automation-equipment design setting, including state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, custom machinery, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Experience in an ISO 13485/GMP regulated environment.
  • Engineering experience with medical devices or precision manufacturing.
  • Automation equipment, tooling, and fixture/gauge design experience.
  • Manufacturing process design, validation, and continuous improvement background.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; proven ability to work across mechanical, controls, and vision disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of DOE, SPC, FMEA, GMP, and QSR methodologies.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) for mechanical and automation design.
  • Demonstrated project management and cross-functional coordination abilities.
  • Hands-on problem-solving mindset with ability to debug equipment and support integration on the production floor.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and influencing skills.
  • High level of energy, personal accountability, and integrity.
  • Detail-oriented; checks own work, maintains accurate records, and organizes information effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet short deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and complete technical activities leading to new or improved automation processes, tooling, and equipment designs for current and next-generation programs that support the company's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Analyze and solve problems using sound engineering principles - from basic design concepts through complex automation challenges - requiring innovative approaches or breakthrough technologies.
  • Interface with quality, manufacturing, and automation development team to integrate new products, systems, or processes into production.
  • Maintain and approve mechanical documentation, device routers, and bills of materials for automation and manufacturing projects.
  • Monitor performance of equipment, machines, and tools; identify and correct issues that produce non-conforming products, low yields, or quality problems.
  • Maintain and approve manufacturing procedures and related documentation for process and equipment improvements.
  • Design and coordinate fabrication and implementation of automation tooling, fixtures, and gauging to support production and system validation.
  • Provide hands-on debug and integration support during equipment build and startup.
  • Resolve non-conformances
  • Analyze and map processes, assess efficiency, and implement continuous-improvement or automation-focused project activities.
  • Assist with part and system cost estimation during concept and quoting phases.
  • Mentor Engineer I and II on design standards, documentation, and integration practices.
  • Support and comply with company Quality System, ISO 13485, and medical-device regulatory requirements.
