About The Position

Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for optimizing manufacturing and assembly processes? Collins Aerospace is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering to support our Cheshire, CT facility. In this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring the efficient production of highly specialized electromechanical sensors and products by troubleshooting complex technical issues, improving manufacturing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You'll collaborate across teams to enhance yield, quality, cost, and productivity—leveraging cutting-edge technologies like laser welding, digital X-ray systems and plasma ashing to push the boundaries of aerospace manufacturing. Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working with small electromechanical assemblies or gyroscope-related products
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel/Macros, PowerPoint)
  • Background in mechanical/electrical process engineering with a focus on optimizing production workflows
  • Familiarity with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies, including Six Sigma and CORE
  • Strong multi-tasking ability in a fast-paced production environment
  • Hands-on experience in precision sensor product assembly and testing is a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle
  • Hands-on experience in machine shop environments and specialized manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, lathe operation, TIG welding, winding arbors, plating, heat treatment, and surface media sandblasting is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization & Troubleshooting – Identify, analyze, and resolve production process issues related to tooling, materials, equipment, and workflow inefficiencies. Continuously drive improvements in yield, quality, cost, schedule, and productivity using Six Sigma, CORE, and other quality tools
  • Manufacturing Support & Equipment Management – Develop and maintain tooling for new and existing products, recommend and implement new manufacturing technologies, and support Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) for specialized equipment such as Laser Weld and Digital X-ray systems
  • Production & Data Management – Develop instructions, oversee SAP Work Orders, Routings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). Conduct process measurements throughout production stages using SPC, Gage R&R, and other analytical tools to maintain control over key variables
  • Failure Analysis, Compliance & Ergonomics – Perform electro-mechanical failure analysis and troubleshooting to identify and resolve production issues. Develop RCCA and failure analysis reports to support business health metrics. Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) standards while actively conducting ergonomic (ERGO) mitigation activities to improve workplace safety and efficiency
  • Process Documentation, Validation & Engineering Support – Develop, maintain and update process documentation to reflect configuration changes and ensure accuracy. Conduct validation activities and generate technical reports to support process improvements and compliance to internal and customer Configuration Control Boards. Assist in implementing design and quality engineering changes, ensuring alignment with customer requirements. Support capital expenditure research and justification, while also facilitating customer-facing communication regarding process modifications and enhancements
  • Facility Layout & Continuous Improvement – Contribute to the design and layout of machinery within the plant to improve efficiency and workflow. Propose sequences of operations and develop procedures for fabrication, assembly, and repair to optimize performance
  • Hands-on, Multi-tasking Mindset – Engage in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment with a proactive approach to problem-solving and multitasking. You will spend 50% of your time each day on the manufacturing floor
