The Manufacturing Engineer II will provide Operations Engineering support to the Manufacturing Work Centers located in Portsmouth, RI. Primary responsibilities will be to support Operations production across a variety of fabrication and integration areas. This includes providing technical guidance to the Manufacturing team and owning the responsibility for the creation, maintenance, and review of manufacturing documentation. Additional responsibilities include process improvement, cycle time reduction, defect prevention and operator support. This person will be required to participate in process improvement initiatives, establishment of process base line metrics, Defect prevention, and process data analysis. This position is onsite in Portsmouth, RI.

Requirements

  • Typically Requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DFMA principles and methods, along with conducting MRL and TRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level and Technology Readiness Level) and safety/ergonomic assessments.
  • Proficiency with technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), configuration management practices, Military and Industry standards (such as J-STD-001), CAD solid modeling tools (preference for CREO/ProE) and/or simulation tools.
  • Experience in Transducer and Sensor assembly (mechanical assembly/bonding/potting/molding), cable and harness fabrication, including crimping requirements, electromechanical integration of piece parts and subassemblies, including a knowledge of cable and harness routing techniques, development of Specialized Tooling (Jigs, Fixtures, Packaging), and/or Refurbishment/Repair or Warranty requirements and processing of Government Furnished Material (GFM) or Equipment (GFE).
  • Experience with programming, maintaining, and the operation of automated tooling and machinery, including Coordinate-Measuring Machine (CMM), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine, Robotics, and other fabrication tooling & processing equipment.
  • Active DoD security clearance – Secret or higher

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and review Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool and fixture designs.
  • Support for a manufacturing area, as part of cross-functional team, by guiding the production team through process troubleshooting and incorporation of engineering changes into the MDP.
  • Disposition non-conforming material and support initiatives to identify root cause and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Driving Continuous Improvement through process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to assemblers, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data driven decision making.
  • Providing real-time technical support to manufacturers and fabricators; in-house as well as the supply base.
  • Use manufacturing systems and software, including Microsoft and SAP based applications, to maintain production-relevant information and perform basic data analysis to identify trends within quality data.
  • Infrequent travel may be requested on an as-needed basis.
  • 1st Shift (typical start time by 7:00 am).
