As a Manufacturing Engineer in the Solar Power group, you will be part of a team responsible for the build and integration of solar array systems that power spacecraft for customers in all sectors of the space economy. Sierra Space has developed and patented novel pick-and-place surface mount solar cell technology which will revolutionize the way space rated solar power systems are built. You will be a part of the team that will scale the process to enable world-class production and test both small and large solar power systems, including multi-panel deployable arrays. This role will work heavily alongside the design, test, program management and quality teams to ensure that all schedule and quality objectives are consistently met for our customers, and that we are advancing the state of the art for Solar Array build efficiency. Key responsibilities for this role include serving as the 2nd shift build owner for all programs moving through the factory, across various work centers such as Surface Mount Technology (SMT), mechanical assembly, and testing. The individual will collaborate closely with quality and design engineering teams to efficiently resolve non-conformances and address engineering blockers during the build process. Additionally, they will support the technician team on the floor by clarifying processes, troubleshooting equipment, and modifying work instructions to ensure the build progresses smoothly. This role also involves providing clear and detailed engineering pass-downs on Material Review Board (MRB) activities, blockers, and any assistance needed for the next shift. As the process subject matter expert on 2nd shift, the individual will drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
